I've always been curious. What's the name of that construction on the water? And what's the meaning? It looks so much like an entry way of some sort.

It IS breathtaking indeed! :D :D :D

Its such a beautiful place and a great shot of it. Unfortunately when i was there it was low tide so the water wasnt really around the shrine. It was still an amazing place to visit.

the water level most of the time is pretty low.

Wow the place really is beautiful. The colours are really beautiful, and they area somehow peaceful and livid at the same time :-). Great combination of reds, yellows and green. I love the gate rising from the water. Were the gate built like that (half under water) for a reason or they always build them like that?

japan has a lot of "Torii" gates, but this made in water is seen only in special places.

Ah, thank you. I thought that most of the gates are in water. But I guess then that is not so, which makes those that are in water somewhat rare and precious. Or at least interesting than the rest :-)
